Where Did the Golf Shirt Originate
A golf shirt came from the tennis shirt more commonly called a polo shirt. It began as a T-shaped shirt that had a collar and could have two or three buttons. The opening under the collar was short for the two or three buttons. Some even had a pocket and you could even find some shirts made with a zipper and no buttons. Shirts of this type were knitted pique cotton but you could also see silk, merino wool and sometimes synthetics.
When Did the Golf Shirt Start Turning Up
Sometime around the latter half of the twentieth century when golf started to become casual the tennis short was adopted universally to be standard golf attire. Today golfers you will find most do not wear anything else.
