Do You Have the Guts to Use a Belly Putter?

Since last years British Open and TPC when Sergio Garcia was playing so well due to his new found putting stroke, everyone is asking, What is the deal with these belly putters????

To put it briefly, belly putters are designed to help golfers better control their putting arc by reducing their range of motion. This is accomplished by increasing the length and thickness of the club when compared to other putters. While it is only recommended for short putting, it has quickly become a fad amongst players hoping to improve their scores.

An obvious disadvantage of the belly putter is the reduced feedback the golfer feels due to its added length. This has led detractors of the belly putter to say it us a club for aging golfers as well as "for those with no other hope of improving their scores." Ouch. Sorry, Sergio.

"If belly putters are so good, prove it in the pros!" That's what the skeptics say. Sergio showed it can improve one's ability, but the ultimate test at August for the Masters has yet to occur. If Sergio or another player can win using the belly putter, maybe it would put some of these complaints to bed.

Belly putters are associated with older players, but Sergio Garcia's putting has cost him so much that he's using one.
